couple photos…

a while back, david and i had some couple photos done. since we didn’t have engagement photos (we were only engaged for 4 months…and i had mono the whole time), we asked our friend Jess to take some for us. She’s amazing and was building her portfolio so she did them for free! we loved how they turned out, so i thought i would give a few quick tips for fun and memorable photo shoots…

1. wear something timeless…

when we were getting ready for this shoot, David and i asked each other this important question: “will we be embarrassed by our outfits when our grandkids find these photos in 30 years?!?!”. we decided to wear pieces that were either thrifted or that were fairly simple and classic in order to create a timeless look. argyle, flannel, blazers, handmade scarves and collared dresses have been around for decades…and will probably continue to be in style for a long time.

2. choose meaningful locations…

we decided to take photos on location at some of our favorite places. we went to our favorite coffeeshop in Minneapolis, spyhouse coffee shop, and a waterfall that we went to when we decided we liked each other. it was so fun, and looking at these photos brings back wonderful memories us.

it is super important that you’re comfortable when taking pictures. i dont know many people (including myself) who love being in front of the camera, but i do know that if you trust your photographer and you can relax, magic seems to happen. we were lucky enough to be great friends with Jess (she was in our wedding!), so that helped a lot. if you dont have a friend who is good with a camera,  sit down and talk with your photographer and tell him/her a bit of your story, then just enjoy the day!

i hope this was helpful! and i hope you enjoyed these fun photos!

i love days like today. big breakfast. old friends. record stores. relaxing. it has been a good day. we have an old friend in town this weekend, so now we’re sitting around, enjoying the feeling of bellies full of mexican food, watching a movie. i wish every day could be like this. full of things i love.

saturday 1

next week lent begins. i love practicing lent. it’s like a fresh start. a reboot almost. for me it puts my life into perspective. i am a part of something bigger than myself.

saturday 2in other news… david looooooves comic books right now.

saturday 3and this is probably the last time i will be eating yummy big breakfast for a while…we gotta start getting trim again.

okay…thats enough for right now. how was your saturday? how do you like spending a day off?

snow day.

there was a time, not too long ago, that snow was a magical thing to me. i’m from the south, so when the smallest amount of snow hit the ground, everything shut down, children stayed home from school, mommas made hot cocoa and helped their little ones build snowmen. it was a special day when the snow came. but now i live in the north…and it’s been snowing a lot here lately. and by a lot i mean a LOT. i think i’ve forgotten the mystery of the snow. it’s common place. it’s normal. it’s everyday. today i’m looking forward to the spring: cookouts, being outdoors…hopefully shedding my winter skin (and by skin i mean these extra winter lbs…yikes!), bike rides… it’s just a few months away. and to celebrate the coming change of the season, here’s a look back at last spring…

life lately has seemed pretty hectic. we’ve had meetings, i’ve had to be at work at 6 am, and i feel like my brain is always going with ideas and goals that i feel like i will never meet. i’m ready for spring. but i’m choosing to enjoy the winter. the snow is beautiful (despite the frigid temperatures). i’m learning to find peace in the midst of the chaos…

happy 2013…

it has been oh so long since i’ve said hello. it’s good to be back…hopefully for real this time.

it’s 2013 and i have made just a few goals for this brand new year! 1. to bring the blog back (i have some new exciting things in store! including a new layout, etc!), 2. learn to sew 3. run a 5k…so many fun new things!

we’ve been taking it slow…and fast lately. so many nights filled with laughter and good food and new friends. days full of work, books, trips to get coffee, and meetings for david. we find sleep and quiet in there somewhere… i think we’re needing a little vacation sometime soon.

i hope you all are having a great beginning of 2013. i’m believing it’s going to be a good one…

d&b (1)

today has been…good. i’ve been tired lately…but i think that’s because i just need to stop and rest some. i’m pretty bad at that. just a few more weeks until a little vacation with the husband…i cant wait!!

here’s some things i’m looking forward to/like right now! enjoy!

1. drinking coffee out of pretty coffee cups
2. catching up with old friends
3. knitting scarves…because i’m too lazy to knit anything else!
4. listening to Sandra McCracken. she’s my favorite…you should probably look her up.
5. running my first 5k!! if i can get training started…

it’s a fun season i’m in right now. a lot of change and growth going on in my life…but it’s beautiful. so beautiful.
